Goal

Close the week on purpose: turn the calendar, the open loops, and a few notes into a short review and a Monday card you can start without re-deciding your work on Sunday night.

Tools required

Direct is the vendor's public site. Affiliate appears only when ShipPlays is enrolled in that program.

  • Titles only. Soften anything private before you paste it.

  • Paper is allowed. Do not install a second task manager to hold this ritual.

  • Four headings and nothing else for the first four Fridays. Notion is optional if you want the note to look tidy.

Step-by-step setup

  1. Create one note with four headings

    Done that mattered. Still open. Waiting on someone else. Monday card. That is the whole system. Do not add a fifth heading until you have done this for four Fridays. A new app is not a step.

  2. Block 30 minutes on Friday

    Paste this week's calendar titles, with private titles softened, the open tasks, and three sentences on what felt heavy. No photos of a notebook unless you want that in the prompt. No other people's private messages.

  3. Run the shutdown prompt once

    It returns five lines under Done, and only items that were in your paste. Open loops become next physical actions, with a verb and a noun. Waiting items name a person. The Monday card has at most three outcomes. If the model adds a fourth priority, it lost.

  4. Delete the pep talk and write the card where you will see it

    You remove encouragement. You pick the three outcomes. The card goes at the top of the task list you already use, not inside the chat. The chat will not be open on Monday morning. The list will.

  5. Keep one lesson sentence

    Example: review meetings took twice as long as the invite. After six weeks you have a better addendum than any generic productivity prompt. Once a month, run the theme prompt on those sentences only.

  6. Protect the block on busy weeks

    A shutdown you skip when the week was hard is a diary. The hard weeks are the ones that need the card. If you miss it, do a ten-minute version with the same four headings. Do not redesign the system.

Exact prompts

Friday shutdown

Once, Friday, on what you pasted. Not on a description of your goals.

Close my week. Do not encourage me. Do not give life advice, a diagnosis, or a suggestion to quit anything. Do not add priorities I did not paste.

Calendar titles:
{CALENDAR}

Open tasks:
{TASKS}

What felt heavy, in my words:
{THREE_SENTENCES}

Return exactly four headings:
- Done that mattered: at most five lines, each present in my paste. If I did not write it, it did not happen.
- Still open: each line is a next physical action with a verb and a noun. Not "think about."
- Waiting on someone else: person and what you are waiting for. If I did not name a person, write "person not named."
- Monday card: at most three outcomes. If you want a fourth, drop it.

No intro. No closing cheer.

Monthly theme

After six lesson sentences, once a month. Optional.

Read these lesson sentences from my Friday notes. Do not coach me. Do not invent a pattern that appears only once. Do not turn a busy week into advice about my life.

Lessons, in the order I wrote them:
{SIX_SENTENCES}

Return:
- Pattern: one sentence, only if the same idea shows up in at least two lessons. Quote those two lessons. If nothing repeats, write "no pattern yet."
- Monday card rule: one change to the three-outcome rule that would reflect that pattern, or "no change" if there is no pattern. The card still has at most three outcomes.
- Will not conclude: one claim these sentences cannot support. Name it (a diagnosis, a career decision, a judgment about someone else) and stop.
- Keep: the lesson sentences to leave in the note, unchanged. Do not paraphrase them into something more dramatic.

No habits program. No morning routine. No encouragement.

Expected results

  • A Monday card with three outcomes you remember writing.
  • Open loops rewritten as actions.
  • A waiting list with names, so stuck has a person attached.
  • Six weeks of lesson sentences you can use.

Guardrails

  • Do not paste other people's private messages, health details, or credentials. Soften calendar titles.
  • The agent does not email your team, move meetings, or clear your inbox.
  • No life advice and no diagnosis. The output is a card and a list.
  • If this is a work account, follow your employer's rule on pasting calendar data into a model.
  • Do not store the note in a tool you would not want a stranger to read.

Common mistakes

Building a second task manager for the ritual.

One note, then back to the list you already open.

Asking for motivation.

The prompt forbids encouragement and asks for actions.

Letting Monday's three become twelve by Sunday.

The card is done when it has three lines. New ideas wait for next Friday's open loops.
